A huge development in products in the past 20 years has made building contemporary passive / carbon neutral homes more affordable. A huge increase in energy costs, regulations and a realisation we need to look after the Earth and preserve its resources has made it necessary.
Over 5 years preparation, thought and building relationships with suppliers has gone into developing Wharfedale Green and after finding the perfect location at Moss and Moor (Ilkley) we are now looking forward to working with the public and building industry as we strive to “build a sustainable future”.
Over 20 years commercial experience with an 11-year stretch in Brazil, where I witnessed the demolition of the Amazon Rain Forest at first hand. This sparked a fire within me that we need to do more to protect our planet.
On my return to the UK in 2016, I held commercial roles with the likes of PA Consulting and Telstra, taking an active role in their Corporate, Social, Responsibility endeavours.
But it wasn’t long before I wanted to make a bigger personal impact. I knew my friend, Paul, shared the same concerns around sustainability as I did, so we set about making a change, and Wharfedale Green was born.
An initial practical start to my working life including electrical work lead to an interest in design and mechanical engineering. While working at a Horsforth based design consultancy my passion for architecture and the environment developed.
In 2008 I set up my own design business. Although working on commercial and multi house developments was good experience, one off bespoke renovations and new builds are my passion and several recent passive / carbon neutral projects have bolstered my belief the future of building and building materials can be sustainable.
